Lantean
Atlantis was once the crowning achievement of society. The pinnacle of science and magic working together. The ancient Lanteans could travel to all worlds and realms, making trade with any culture or civilization that was amenable. Their devices brought wonder and well-being throughout the multiverse.
Most people only heard tales of the grandiose construction. The gas-dwarf turned sun through forced stellification at the center of an immense orbular structure. Ocean planets filled the sky as they orbited the artificial sun, and the land was so extensive rumors spread about there being an existence of every biome physically possible spread across its surface. They were a peaceful people who told the most wondrous of tales, and they were hailed as friends wherever they arrived. Until they vanished.
The ancient ones controlled the portals. When they stopped travelling through them, the portals fell dormant. They strictly controlled travel to and from their great world. Outsiders were not permitted to visit and when they stopped traveling, the location of Atlantis was lost to time. Many searched, trying to unravel the mystery of the missing people and their great technology, but none succeeded. Ages passed, and the ancient devices dwindled in number as they slowly died, or were destroyed. Many such pieces were lost in war and natural disasters. Now they’re passing through time, lying in wait, wishing to be found throughout the multiverse.
Inventors and magicians have attempted to mimic the devices have, but the final product was a pale imitation. Experienced eyes can easily tell the frauds apart. A true Lantean device, or any sign of Atlantis, can fetch an incredibly high bounty. Especially from the power brokers and rich collectors scattered throughout the worlds. This loss of trade and technology devastated many worlds, except Midgard.
Midgard had only a nascent Faefolk society when Atlantis vanished. The Courts had hardly even spread from their home of underhill. Dragons were numerous across the globe, and though they enjoyed the company of the Lanteans, they had no need of their technology. They loved their primal planet and basked in its pure natural magic. Sadness touched them when the ancient ones stopped coming through the portals, but it didn’t affect them like the rest of the multiverse.
